Recap of our 5th annual:
Amazing first year for our Fairy and Dragon Making Sculpture Contest, conceived and sponsored by Lisa Schokking of the Big Mug Co! MANY sincere thanks to Lisa for this incredible addition to the festival and for bringing judges Linda Eales and Carol Ingleton; what a job they had! Being our first year, we had no idea what to expect, and the spectacular entries left everyone breathless! Watch the Mary McGillis vlog on her YouTube channel to see some of them; you will be amazed! Thanks SO MUCH, Lisa!
For the Lakefield Fairy and Dragon Festival party, the volunteers, entertainers and vendors were arriving at Isabel Morris Park by 7 am, all happy that we had yet another glorious day for The Fairy and Dragon Festival! The Blades of Glory, Kawartha Music Co. and some amazing Fairy Princesses were getting set to entertain all day … and Sparky the Dragon even brought his good buddy Cornwall the Dragon this year!!!
The Kawartha Chamber was setting up the King of Fairy Collecting Game; Sandra O’Brien’s Dragon Bubbles tent set up by Glenn Millar of Darling Insurance and his son Jason, COMPASS Early Learning & The Rolling Art Studio all set up play areas for children.
Gillian Exton and Stuff’d set up their famous fairy and dragon cookie making area and some delectable delights from Stuff’d and Gillian was the Queen of the Unicorns and ran around all day in a blow up Unicorn costume AND set up a miniature adorable Stuff Store, Griffin’s Greenhouses again donated an amazing fairy garden for our draw, a garden set in petrified wood!
Celtic Connection had free face painting and several other local businesses including Razberry The Clown of Peterborough, Henna Rocks Tattoos of Lakefield, Trace’s Faces and Jennie all featured incredible facepainting artists at varying prices and then there were a lot of beautiful vendors who featured their art for sale, many of them local and, for the first time, sharing their creativity. Chef Brian brought some of his amazing tacos over from Angle Iron Kitchen on the corner of Charlotte St in Lakefield across from The English Potter. His food is simply delish and everyone enjoyed Tommi and her friend serving all day!
Sparky the Dragon And Cornwall the Dragon were in action all day and Sparky the Firedog joined us for the afternoon!
The amazing Tinkerbell, winner of our 2019 Tinkerbell contest Alyssa Graham, danced with knights and festival goers and led Fairy Walks throughout the day with Piper John Mullin, circling the park with wee fairies all following.
It was a sunny, gorgeous day with six knights from Blades of Glory and owner Sir Harry Heydon entertaining with three shows: the knights fight with real swords and then they invited the wee children in for challenges, a fan favorite; and they also danced with the fairy princesses and other festival revelers! Brother William was the incredible emcee again!!! Thanks to many sponsors, there were hundreds of great costume prizes for all ages!
The Kawartha Music Co. came in fairy wings and sang for everyone. Festival goers were also delighted to walk through the magical village of Lakefield on a scavenger hunt seeking out 7 of the 20 fairy and dragon doors on the front of businesses (a year round festival attraction) to see what new doors were popping up featuring the elementals of Lakefield! It was a huge meeting of volunteers and community minded people who all thoroughly enjoyed the family fun. Special thanks to Barb Bird, Sandy Turner, Linda Park and Maggie and photographer supreme James McShane. Thank you for supporting your local Celtic girls, the volunteers and the sponsors who helped to make this amazing day possible!
